September 2017 sees the growth of our Secondary to Year 7 and 8, as well as the growth of our Primary up to Year 3.  All of this growth is dependent on us recruiting outstanding practitioners to join our exceptional team in a variety of roles spanning teaching, leadership, pupil support and business management. Our Journey

The journey began in late 2013 with a vision for a school to reflect our unwavering high standards and expectations for all young people.  A unique opportunity was presented to us as a group; United Learning was approached to help Barking and Dagenham to solve the shortage of high quality school places in both Primary and Secondary in the coming years.  The shortage arises from the rapidly growing population in Barking and Dagenham:  the Borough is a wonderful melting pot of cultures and backgrounds of families from all over the globe, and our school reflects this exciting mix of people; from those who have lived in Dagenham for many generations, along with those families who are very new to the country.  To have been given the opportunity to create this transformational school in the heart of Dagenham, at such a critical point in the Borough’s history is a privilege as well as a huge challenge.

Our Primary school has been open since September 2014, and as a result of our remarkable staff team, and the incredible support of our families and local community, the start that our children have made has been exceptional.  In our first two years, our pupils have exceeded the National expectations for attainment and progress in Early Years and Year 1 phonics.  Our average point score for Reception pupils was the highest in the Borough in 2016, and 88% of our Year 1 pupils passed the phonics screen in 2016.  Our frontier cohort will sit their KS1 SATs in the summer of 2017. Our Secondary opened in September 2016, and the pupils have got off to a flying start.  Standards of behaviour and learning are exceptional, and we can’t wait to see this year group progress as they grow with the school.

The Opportunities

As well as the journey of development that we are on as a school, every single staff member is on their own development journey.  We embrace a coaching culture at Goresbrook School: every adult has a coach, and all teachers receive feedback and development at least once per week. We have a range of opportunities that will be advertised over the coming months both here on our vacancies page and on the TES website.  We have a number of Open Events for prospective members of staff, and encourage you to attend these and/or email us to arrange a visit or meeting at School.  These roles are available for September 2017 or earlier, depending on individual circumstances and the particular role.  Below is a taster of some of the roles that will be available shortly.  Please don’t hesitate to get in touch for further information about any of these roles.


Leadership Roles:  Primary and Secondary

Vice Principal (Teaching, Learning and Assessment All-through)

The Vice Principal (T and L all-through) will join the Senior Leadership Team, and have strategic overview of all aspects of Teaching, Learning and Assessment across the whole school.  We are looking for someone with experience at a senior level, who has a proven track record of improvement and excellence in Teaching, Learning and Assessment from either phase, and preferably with cross-phase experience.  If you are interested in developing your leadership skills ready for headship, this could be the role for you.

Business Manager

The Business Manager is a key role within the Senior Leadership Team in Goresbrook.  You are responsible for management of the budget and finances, all operational aspects of the running of the school (including catering, ICT, HR), as well as being a presence around school to see the impact of your actions! 


Middle Leader Roles

We are looking for Middle Leaders to join our English, Maths and Humanities departments.  We will support those new and developing leaders through our bespoke leadership development and coaching programs, as well as with access to National programs of support. 

Maths Subject Lead

In Maths, we are looking for a subject leader who is excited by the opportunity to devise curriculum models (based on Maths Mastery), and develop your team as the school grows.  You must have a passion and vision for the Maths department in which all pupils can master the most rigorous content, and have a proven track record of outstanding classroom practice.

English Key Stage 3 Co-ordinator

In English, we are looking for a teacher who has an interest in growing their leadership capacity with this exciting role.  You will work within the English team to develop the Key Stage 3 curriculum and assessment model, and have a passion for developing an outstanding Key Stage 3 offer within the context of our all-through. 

History Subject Lead

In History, we are looking for a subject leader who will work with the Humanities Subject Lead to devise an outstanding History curriculum.  We are looking for a History teacher in the early stages of their career who would like to take their first steps into leadership within a supportive team.  You will teach across all aspects of Humanities in Key Stage 3 (Geography, History, RE, Politics, Philosophy and Economics), and have a strong track record of teaching to date.

Art and Design Technology Subject Lead

In Art and DT, we are looking for a subject leader who will set up this department from scratch, by devising an outstanding curriculum and building their team over the coming years.  We are looking for an Art/DT teacher in the early stages of their career who would like to take their first steps into leadership within a supportive team, or an experienced Middle Leader who is looking for a new challenge.  You will teach across all aspects of Art and DT in Key Stage 3, and have a strong track record of teaching to date.

Teaching Roles

We are seeking to appoint teachers (including NQTs) to join our Science, English and Maths departments in Secondary.  We are also seeking to appoint a MFL (French) teacher and a Performing Arts (Music) teacher who will teach across Primary and Secondary phases, with the majority of teaching in Secondary, and plenty of flexibility as the team grows!

Teaching Fellow Roles

If you are an exceptional graduate and an aspiring Secondary teacher who would like to gain valuable classroom experience for a year before starting teacher training in 2018, this is the role for you.  Our Teaching Fellows assist student learning in class and lead groups of students in order to stretch and support individuals.  At Goresbrook School we have a well-established route into United Teaching (the United Learning School’s Direct program ).  The Teaching Fellow role is an excellent first step for those with aspirations to join the profession. 

Primary Teachers

We are looking for excellent teachers (including NQTs) to join our team in Year 1, 2 and 3 next year.  There are leadership opportunities available (year group and subject leadership) for the right candidates.

Lunchtime Learning Assistants

We are looking to grow our excellent team of Lunchtime Learning Assistants for September.  Our LLAs are highly skilled, and fulfil a number of roles including Family Dining, reading and support with children and assisting with library sessions and book swaps.

Business Management Roles

Technicians:  IT support (part-time) and Science/DT support

We will be recruiting to these new roles to support the technical running of the school in IT and Science and DT.  Further details to follow.

Finance and HR

We will be recruiting further administrative positions within the Finance and HR departments.  Further details to follow.
