Homework
At Goresbrook School, we believe that homework helps to embed the learning children are doing at school. We offer a choice of homework activities each term so that children can choose topics and activities that they are really interested in and spend more time exploring their ideas. Please find the termly homework activities we suggest for each year group in the folders below.
IXL
We are delighted to offer IXL for Maths and English homework for our children in Years 2-6. IXL is a personalised learning program that offers unlimited practice – using diagnostic tests to pinpoint skill levels. IXL provides personalised recommendations and allows parents and teachers to monitor progress over time. All children will receive an IXL log in and be given homework weekly on a Friday.
For more information about IXL – please see attached the parent guide below (INSERT file attached to the email) or the IXL getting started guide
SATs companion homework is given to children in Year 5 and 6 weekly. Children will receive allocated homework tasks on a Monday with a week given to complete the work.
All children are given a TT Rockstars account to enjoy learning timetables in an interactive manner. To learn more about TT Rockstars please see here.
We recommend a “little and often” approach; 3 minutes practice a day, 4 or 5 times a week is a good target.
Home Reading
Children will select two books – one for reading for pleasure and one linked to their class texts. Parents can support by listening to children read for 20 minutes a day and signing reading records to come into school on a Wednesday.
Spellings
Spellings will be shared once a week from class teachers on a Wednesday. There will be weekly spelling tests by your child’s reading teacher to support progression in spelling.
