Wellbeing and Thrive

Well-being

At Goresbrook School, we are committed to supporting the emotional health and well-being of our pupils and staff. We know that everyone experiences challenges in life that can make us vulnerable and, at times, anyone may need additional emotional support. We take the view that positive mental health is everybody’s right and we all have a vital role to play.

We aim to promote positive mental health and well-being for every member of our school community. Furthermore, we understand that mental health and well-being is just as important as physical health to our lives. We recognise that children’s mental health and overall well-being can affect their learning, lives, confidence and achievements.

A key aspect of our role as a school is to ensure that children get the right support to reach their potential or access help when they need it. We also play a vital role in ensuring that children learn about what they can do to maintain positive mental health, what can affect their mental health and where they can go if they need help and support.

Positive well-being is promoted throughout our curriculum and school culture. Through a carefully planned curriculum, our pupils acquire appropriate knowledge and develop the skills and understanding they need, so that they can lead confident, healthy, independent lives, and become resilient and responsible individuals.

If you ever feel that you need support, there are lots of places that are here to help:

Thrive

Thrive is a therapeutic approach to help support children with their emotional and social development.

At Goresbrook, we believe it is vital to address our pupils’ emotional developmental needs, as by doing this, we help them build resilience and resourcefulness which helps them both in and out of our school setting.

By using Thrive's online assessment tools, our Thrive Practitioners quickly identify children's emotional development so they can provide support and action plans for their individual and behavioural needs.

Differentiated provisions as well as practical strategies and techniques are put in to place to ensure every child has opportunities to develop their emotional and social skills, improve their emotional wellbeing and develop their emotional literacy.

The Thrive Curriculum at Goresbrook School provides children with opportunities to build upon all Thrive strands including: Being, Doing, Thinking, Power and Identity and Skills and Structure.

As a school, we not only provide Thrive 1-1 and group sessions, but also whole class lessons, planned and resourced by a trained Thrive practitioner.

These sessions are designed to make best use of life’s learning opportunities through many practical activities such a sand tray play, art sessions, role play and much more.

In addition to helping children, we aim to support our parents too. At Goresbrook, we offer Thrive parental workshops, for those wishing to learn more about the Thrive Approach and its practical, every day application to family life.

Not only do our children love the Thrive approach, but so do our staff. Our Thrive curriculum allows us to experience the personal and professional rewards of helping children and young people learn about their emotions and regulate their own behaviour; improve attendance and attainment by helping children and young people to engage with learning and strengthen links with our parents and carers, ensuring a joined-up approach to supporting children and young people's emotional and social needs.
