Curriculum Enrichment

Enrichment and Wider Curriculum

At Goresbrook Primary, we provide a broad and ambitious curriculum that extends beyond the National Curriculum. Our aim is to ensure that all pupils develop the knowledge, skills and cultural capital they need to succeed in life. Learning is carefully designed to be purposeful and connected, enabling pupils to make meaningful links between subjects and the wider world.

We are committed to high expectations for every child. Through adaptive teaching, appropriate challenge and timely support, all pupils are enabled to achieve well. Opportunities for deeper thinking and mastery are embedded, while targeted support ensures that pupils build securely on core knowledge and skills. Our curriculum is enriched through a carefully sequenced programme of experiences that bring learning to life and foster curiosity, confidence and pride in achievement.

Whole-School Events and Personal Development

Personal development is central to life at Goresbrook. A structured programme of whole-school events supports pupils’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural understanding, while promoting the core values of respect, responsibility and resilience.

Throughout the year, pupils take part in a wide range of events, including national awareness days, themed weeks and community celebrations. These experiences are underpinned by carefully chosen ‘big questions’ that encourage pupils to reflect, think critically and develop a strong sense of identity and belonging.

Pupils are also given meaningful opportunities to lead and contribute through roles such as School Council representatives and involvement in charitable and community initiatives. This ensures that they understand their voice matters and that they can positively influence the world around them.

Educational Visits and Experiences

Educational visits are an integral part of our curriculum, providing pupils with first-hand experiences that deepen understanding and broaden horizons. Each year group follows a carefully planned programme of visits, linked directly to curriculum content and designed to build knowledge progressively over time.

Pupils benefit from a rich range of opportunities, including visits to significant cultural and historical sites, local environments and places of worship. These experiences are complemented by workshops, visitors and performances, ensuring that learning is both engaging and memorable.

Residential visits, team-building activities and aspiration-led experiences further support pupils’ personal growth, helping them to develop independence, confidence and resilience. By the time they leave Goresbrook, pupils have accessed a wide range of experiences that prepare them well for the next stage of their education and beyond.
