Intent, implementation and impact

Intent, implementation and impact - Physical Education

Intent

Our physical education curriculum is based on providing all children with the knowledge, skills and understanding required to make a positive impact on their own physical health and well-being. We want children to be enthused and inspired to participate fully in physical education and school sport, developing a lifelong love of physical activity, sport and exercise. This will enable them to become active, healthy members of society. As a result, the curriculum has been designed for that purpose.

We provide opportunities for children to become physically confident in a way only Physical Education can, by building character and embedding values such as fairness, honesty, self-regulation, judgement, bravery and respect.

Be happy. Be healthy. Be active.

Impact

Our Physical Education curriculum is more than just a series of activities; it is a cornerstone of our commitment to nurturing well-rounded, healthy and confident individuals. Our Physical Education curriculum is designed to have a lasting positive impact on every pupil, fostering physical health, cognitive growth, social skills, emotional well-being and a lifelong passion for active living.

Promoting Physical Health and Fitness

Our Physical Education curriculum ensures that pupils engage in regular physical activity, enhancing their cardiovascular health, muscular strength, flexibility and overall fitness. Through a variety of sports and exercises, we help pupils develop essential motor skills, coordination and agility. These foundational elements support their physical well-being and encourage a lifelong commitment to health.

Enhancing Cognitive Development

Physical activity is closely linked to cognitive function and academic performance. Our structured and progressive Physical Education lessons improve pupils’ concentration, memory and focus, contributing to better classroom behaviour and learning outcomes. By integrating fitness with education, we help pupils achieve a balanced and enriched academic experience.

Building Social Skills and Teamwork

Physical Education lessons provide invaluable opportunities for pupils to develop teamwork, cooperation and communication skills. Through team sports and group activities, pupils learn to work collaboratively, take on leadership roles and resolve conflicts constructively. These experiences are crucial in shaping confident, socially adept individuals.

Fostering Emotional Well-being

We recognise the importance of mental health and emotional well-being. Our Physical Education curriculum provides a healthy outlet for stress relief, helping pupils manage anxiety and improve their mood. Achieving personalised goals and mastering new skills boosts their self-esteem and fosters resilience, equipping them with a positive attitude towards challenges.

Instilling Lifelong Healthy Habits

Our curriculum instils the importance of maintaining an active lifestyle beyond school. By educating pupils about fitness, nutrition and wellness practices, we empower them to make informed health choices throughout their lives. Exposure to a variety of sports and activities sparks a lifelong interest in physical activity and recreational pursuits.
