Goresbrook Sixth Form opened its doors in September 2021, providing a highly academic offer for students in the locality of Barking and Dagenham. In line with the school vision, the sixth form provides a route to university. Our curriculum provides a selection of A levels and a comprehensive university preparation programme, aiming to get our students into the best universities. Students who join our sixth form can expect the following:
Excellent, subject-specialist teaching in academic and facilitating subjects
We offer six weekly teaching hours for all courses, delivered by specialist teachers. Our teaching and learning approach is designed to facilitate independent study and study at higher education. Our class sizes are small, enabling a more personalised approach to curriculum delivery.
A comprehensive university preparation programme
In order to successfully secure a place at a top university, students will require support with selecting the right courses, writing a winning application, effective interview techniques, entrance exams and financial preparation. At Goresbrook, these elements are planned into a supplementary curriculum taught over the two years. Students receive support from an academic tutor, who will maintain oversight of their university preparation, providing expert advice and guidance throughout.
Our university preparation programme goes beyond getting students into university and looks at how to prepare students for success whilst at university. This includes exposure to higher education study skills, as well as sessions on managing finances and well-being.
A broad enrichment offer
Students get the opportunity to build wider skills such as leadership, organisation and research. Students will also be encouraged to take part in sport. These experiences aim to mirror what students might expect at university. This means that students will be able to leave Goresbrook as well-rounded individuals.
